The Great Debate
First and foremost, it’s all about perception—the US should take the high road. We should be the voice of reason in this and any conflict with worldwide implications. But most importantly we then must present our case to the world.
Now if you really want the world’s attention you gotta think BIG, right? You have to stage an unprecedented event—something that’s never been done, something so compelling that people will have to tune in just to say they were there—a chance to get to the truth.
So what do you do when you want to make a big splash these days? You put it on the internet!!
President Obama should challenge President Putin to a face to face debate streaming live on the internet, at a neutral site and allow the world to watch as they debate both sides in the Ukraine/Crimea conflict. Just lay the cards on the table, comrade—tell the world why your way in Ukraine is best and then Mr Obama will state the case for the free world so we can all judge who is right. It’s never been done on that scale. Two world leaders together in one place with just a moderator and some basic rules. Can you imagine a Kennedy/Khrushchev debate before the Cuban Missile Crisis? Or Churchill/Hitler prior to WWII? What if…?
Would such a debate actually solve anything? Probably not but the purpose would be to present the facts out in public—for all to see simultaneously worldwide. Perception is reality, give ‘em enough info and let the people decide. The US will be perceived as taking the high road while Russia will be seen as what they are, desperate corrupt thugs.
Real simple, no spin, only the truth.
And YES, I’m dreaming but what do you think?
